In his judgment, President of the court, Chief Bolarinwa Popoola, held that the marriage ended when the wife left the husband’s house and had a child for another person. “Adultery is and has always been a major cause of divorce. This marriage is hereby dissolved with immediate effect,” he said. Police nabs Benue syndicate with 12,000 PVCs.

The Benue State Police command, yesterday nabbed a syndicate with over 12,000 Permanent Voters’ Cards in the state. This is coming barely two days after the state police command arrested four other persons in possession of over 1,000 PVCs in Makurdi. The Commissioner of Police in the state, Hyacinth Dagala, who confirmed the arrest, gave the name of the gang leader as Ali Usman. Usman was arrested with another of his colleague, Terseer Wuar. The gang leader claimed that he was on an errand for some top politicians in Abuja running a group called Northern Youths’ Forum. Dagala, however, refused to give the identity of the parties the suspects were working for, saying that it might thwart investigations. Man violates his daughter “to confirm her virginity”.

A man simply identified as Mr. Alex was arrested for attempting to rape his 15 year old daughter in his apartment at Abiodun street, Ajegunle, Ajeromi, Ifelodun local government area of Lagos. He claims he carried out that act to test her virginity. Leadership newspaper reports that Alex was apprehended by his neighbours and handed over to the police at Ajegunle police station but was later released on bail last weekend. A police inspector attached to Ajegunle police station disclosed that it was neighbours that dragged the suspect to the station. He said: “His wife was not at home when he wanted to perpetrate the act but the man denied doing that. “You know that nobody will agree that he wanted to rape his daughter. A 26-year-old National Youth Service Corp, NYSC, member, identified simply as Ernest, committed suicide after being jilted by his girlfriend, Chioma Okewuru, who is also a corps member. The two corps members met and fell in love while serving in Redemption Secondary School, Ofombogha 1 in Obubra Local Government Area of Cross Rivers State. A middle-aged  palm tree   harvester , George Maduabuchi, from Owerrinta in the Isiala-Ngwa South Local Government Area of Abia State is in the police net for allegedly selling his 14-month-old son for N300,000. According to Punch, the father of four was said to have connived with another suspect, Obinna Erondu, now at large, to perpetrate the act. The Commissioner of Police, Mr. Joshak Habila, who paraded the suspect along with other suspected criminals on Thursday, said, “Luck ran out on Maduabuchi when the wife alerted the police on his questionable role when the baby fell ill and he took him out and did not return with him.” But the suspect told our  correspondent  that he did not sell his son, but only took him to a herbalist when he took ill. For  about 148 junior, middle level and senior staff of Fidelity Bank Plc, it was a black Valentine’s Day, as they were asked to resign apparently to stave off termination of appointment. Our correspondent learnt that those affected arrived their offices as usual on Friday, February 13, the day before Valentine’s to discover they had been denied access to the bank’s main server. Those already affected in the exercise which is said to still be ongoing, include 139 junior staff of the rank of managers and below and nine others between the positions of Senior Manager and Deputy General Manager. 48 people dead as passenger ferry capsizes after it was hit by cargo vessell

A ferry carrying up to 140 passengers has capsized in central Bangladesh after being hit by a cargo vessel, killing at least 48 people. A  rescue  operation is under way on the Padma River, about 25 miles north-west of the capital Dhaka, but it is not clear how many people remain missing. The ferry was struck by the cargo vessel at the Daulatdia-Paturia crossing this afternoon, fire department official Shahzadi Begum said. Rescue teams were deployed and passing boats are helping in the operation. The ferry, the ML Mosta, was submerged at a depth of up to 20ft, inspector Zihad Mia, who is overseeing the rescue operation, said. By this evening, at least 48 bodies had been recovered. 7-year-old suicide bomber kills self, five others in Yobe .

an under-aged suicide bomber who blew up herself on Sunday in a security checkpoint outside a popular GSM market in Potiskum, Yobe State killing five others in the process. Some of those present at the scene estimate the age of the bomber to be around seven. Eye witnesses recount that the lad had entered into the commercial area where people are and detonated the explosive devices strapped to her body. AFP quotes a local vigilante leader who said that nineteen others sustained varying degrees of injury and were taken to hospital soon after the blast. According to the source identified as Buba Lawan, “So far, five people were killed with the girl while 19 others have been taken to hospital for injuries,” Another witness, Ibrahim Maishago, told Reuters by telephone that “The lady refused to be checked at the gate to the market and an argument ensued.” “She let off the bomb, killing herself and five others, while many were injured,” he added.

Fleeing Boko Haram insurgents drown in Lake Chad.

A  large number of Boko Haram insurgents have drowned in the Lake Chad as they fled the heavy bombardment by Nigerian Air Force heralding the advance of troops on mission to flush them out of Baga. Though the number of the dead terrorists was not given,it was said that many of them met their Waterloo as they fled the aerial attacks by NAF jets on Baga, the location of Multi-National Joint Taskforce base seized by the sect in January, 2015. A statement by the Director, Defence Information, Maj. Gen. Chris Olukolade in Abuja on Saturday, said the insurgents had buried land mines in over 1,500 spots on the routes leading to the town.
