A couple was arrested for shoplifting 57 blocks of cheese from a Walmart in Fort Oglethorpe, Tennessee, earlier this week. Joshua and Erika Caldwell, both 21, were arrested outside the store, with a local police chief reporting security approached Joshua Caldwell, “asked him what was going on, and he said, ‘Well, I got caught shoplifting.'” Which, well, points for honesty but they’re mostly moot in this scenario given the bad behavior that led to it. In addition to the cart he was caught with, police found cheese in the Caldwells’ car. Lots of cheese — “stuffed in the floorboards, in bags and throughout the vehicle,” and with a value of $300 total. And in addition to all that dairy goodness, police also found 10 bottles of laundry detergent, clothes, and a candle, which were all also reportedly shoplifted. (Police also found marijuana, meaning the couple were also booked on drugs charges — both have since made bail.) Wonder what they wanted that quantity of cheese for???

Soldiers of the Multi National Joint Task Force are said to have possibly killed a very high ranking member of the Boko Haram sect in the ongoing joint military action in the North-East. The Boko Haram commander was killed during the battle of Malamfatoria, in a joint raid carried out by Nigerian troops and their counterparts from Chad, Niger and Cameroon. Although his identity could not be immediately ascertained, it is believed that he was one of the top officers to the founder of the Boko Haram sect, Muhammad Yusuf. The top commander of the insurgents was killed in an air raid by helicopter gunships of the Nigerian Air Force involved in the combined operation with ground forces during the fight to reclaim some border towns from the insurgents. The Nigerian Army were also said to have seized some lethal weapons captured by the Boko Haram fighters when they took over the Baga base of the task force. A fire out break that started last night has  destroyed Kano's most popular mobile phone village Farm Centre. Report says about 95% of the market has been affected and goods worth millions of naira are said to have been destroyed. Kano state fire sevice said the fire started about 2:am this morning possibly as a result of electrical spark from a shop in the market. A Federal High Court, Ikoyi, Lagos on Wednesday sen­tenced a Brazil-based, Nigerian footballer, Umeh Henry, to two years imprisonment for drug re­lated offence. Umeh was arrested by the Na­tional Drugs Law and Enforce­ment Agency (NDLEA) on Oc­tober 6, 2014, during an inward clearance of Emirate Airlines from Brazil via Dubai, at the Murtala Muhammed Interna­tional Airport, Lagos, with 15 grams of cocaine. He pleaded guilty, last Thurs­day, to the one-count charge pre­ferred against him by the anti-drugs agency. NDLEA prosecutor, Mr. Vem­be Emmanuel, had urged the court to convict the accused as charged, in consonance with section 218 and 285 of the Crimi­nal Procedure Acts (CPA). Soldiers detailed to provide security in Ado Ekiti yesterday brutalized the Daily Sun Correspondent of Ekiti State chapter of the Correspondents' Chapel, Mr. Wole Balogun. According to the victim, the incident occurred at about 10:05 at the Okeyinmi roundabout opposite the First Bank office in Ado Local Government Area of Ado Ekiti. A suspected kidnapper who arranged the abduction of his girlfriend, Belinda with the intention of extorting money from her family has been arrested by the police in Delta State. The Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) of the Rivers State Police Command has arrested over 30 suspected armed robbers, kidnappers and cultists.  Over 1000 arms and ammunition including 500 cartridges were recovered from the hoodlums. Commissioner of Police, Dan Bature told Crime Watch Today  that the Commander SARS, Promise Wosu (DSP), who led the operation, arrested over 30 bandits  and kidnappers and while recovering arms and ammunition from them. Mr. Bature commended Wosu and his team on what he described as a good job. He explained that the SARS men also arrested over 20 suspected armed robbers and cultists and recovered ammunition from their hide-out at Egi community.
